Hundreds of people watched the Archbishop's installation, both inside and outside the Cathedral Basilica of St Francis of Assisi in downtown Santa Fe.  Inside the Basilica, 64-year-old Rev John Wester spoke to his Roman Catholic parishoners – nearly 300,000 strong throughout the state, of mercy, compassion and that together he and his community would face some of the struggles of poverty and illness prevalent in New Mexico.

As the new Archbishop prepared for his installation amidst pomp and circumstance inside the Catholic Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi in downtown Santa Fe yesterday, hundreds of the faithful and the curious gathered outside in a crowd that spilled through the giant carved doorway into the courtyard.  KSFR’s Deborah Martinez spoke with some of them as they waited with anticipation.

While Republican candidates seem daily to be throwing their hats into the presidential ring, the Democratic slate for Presidential nominees remains slim. Among the most colorful is US Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont. This Sunday organizers will hold the first committee meeting for the Independent politician. The group Santa Fe for Bernie Sanders is organized by local businessman Paul Gibson. KSFR's Zelie Pollon spoke with him about the newly formed committee and how people can get involved.

The ACLU Regional Center for border rights in Las Cruces just released a report called “Guilty Until Proven Innocent: Living in New Mexico’s 100 Mile Zone” which documents what residents along the border region have been living with in terms of police brutality and racial profiling. This week on Nuestra American, Marcela Diaz and ELSA LOPEZ  spoke with Brian Erikson, a border policy strategist with the The ACLU Regional Center for border rights about the report. As Marcela indicated in the interview, federal policy has allowed the border patrol to act for years without any oversight.
