More than 24 hundred jobs will become available at Los Alamos National Laboratory between now and 2020 as almost a quarter of the lab’s workforce approaches retirement age. And New Mexico’s colleges and universities hope to take advantage of that to grow the proportion of lab employees that hail from New Mexico. Right now that’s about 40 percent, but Democratic US Senator Martin Heinrich of New Mexico says it could, and should, be more. KSFR’s Kate Powell caught up with the Senator and brings us this report.
