By latest estimates, there are 2000 Chinese companies with investments in Africa, and roughly one-million Chinese citizens working in Africa. The official count of direct Chinese investment there is close to 22-billion dollars. Analyst Carly Laywell of the CIA-connected Monterey Terrorism Research and Education Program says this means trouble for American policies in Africa. But former US Ambassador David Shinn told KSFR's Dave Marash on HERE AND THERE, he doesn't find these developments worrying.
