Environment America has just released its annual report ranking states by solar capacity, and there’s some bad news for New Mexico. For the first year since Environment America’s Research & Policy Center began publishing its Lighting The Way report in 2012, we’re not in the top 10 on the list—despite being the second-sunniest state in the nation. But as Carly Poremba of Environment New Mexico told KSFR’s Kate Powell, though supporters of solar development in New Mexico often point to the abundance of sunshine in our state, that has little to do with how well we exploit it.
