Dark Canyon: Sexual Abuse and Secrecy in the Archdiocese of Santa Fe-Follow-Up
On September 12 Santa Fe Archbishop John C. Wester released a list of 74 credibly accused clergy in the Archdiocese of Santa Fe. The list includes 66 priests, six deacons and two brothers.

KSFR's Ellen Berkovich was live on the telephone Thursday with Terry McKiernan, the president of Bishop Accountability dot org (http://bishopaccountability.org). He sheds light light on who's on the list, who's missing, and what's next in the aftermath of this surprising release. McKiernan calls it praiseworthy and says the Archdiocese may continue to release more information including possibly adding more names to the list.

N.M. Senator Heinrich Introduces Bi-Partisan Tech Transfer Bill

In Washington, the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources heard testimony last week about the work of the Department of Energy’s 17 national laboratories, including Los Alamos and Sandia National Labs in New Mexico.

Senator Martin Heinrich, who is a member of the committee, says both labs play critical roles in both national security and development of advanced energy technologies. The Democrat spoke of the need to make it easier for the private sector to engage with national laboratories to commercialize innovative technology.

Rail Runner Faces Federal Safety Equipment Installation Deadline

The New Mexico Rail Runner Express train line that runs between Santa Fe to Belen faces a challenge. A few years back, Congress approved new safety standards that all passenger trains must comply with. The problem is the 50-million dollar price-tag, because the Rail Runner has been left to foot the bill.

Augusta Meyers is the communications director for the New Mexico Rail Runner Express.

Deputy State Historian On Santa Fe Entrada; Monuments To Conquerors

Turmoil over protests against the annual Santa Fe “Entrada” re-enactment continues this week, as the American Civil Liberties Union has announced its investigation into events that led to arrests during last Friday’s ceremony at Santa Fe Plaza.

And the city of Santa Fe’s survey of historical markers and monuments that may be offensive to certain minorities presages some changes in attitude about how the city honors its forbears.

Deputy New Mexico historian Rob Martinez dropped-by the KSFR studios to shed some light on some of the historic events that shaped New Mexico’s history, the celebrations that accompany them and the controversy that arises.

The Equifax Breach--What You Should Know

The credit-reporting company Equifax Inc. disclosed late last week that hackers gained access to some of its systems, potentially compromising the personal information of roughly 143 million U.S. consumers. The Wall Street Journal says it’s considered one of the biggest and most threatening data breaches in recent years.

The size of the hack is second only to the pair of attacks on Yahoo disclosed last year that affected the information of as many as one-and-a-half billion customers. It also involves nearly twice the number affected by one of the highest-profile breaches at a financial firm, the cyberattack at J.P. Morgan Chase and Company about three years ago.

Troia Corey is Director of the Consumer and Environmental Protection Division at the New Mexico Attorney General’s office. Corey says there are a couple of things consumers should be aware of in light of the Equifax breach.
